“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” - Amelia Earhart

The options below are a basic structure. Everyone is different. CALL ME before you go a “cheaper” route. I’ll make sure you know what you need to know. We coach a training experience to individual needs. We have travelled out of State and trained in areas not close to a qualified instructor with and without my tow winch and had amazing adventures and fun getting pilots trained and rated wherever you live. This is MY FULL TIME OCCUPATION so I am available. Some students are available full time and have been rated to fly solo without an instructor present in a matter of 4 days when the weather permits. I have also had other students take months for the P2 course. We can work with anyones schedule that is committed. We are also part of Team SuperFly of Salt Lake City. This is a HUGE benefit which means you can train at Point of The Mountain in Utah with me or any of the Team SuperFly’s amazing flock because you signed up and purchased your equipment through Desert Wind Paragliding. Many of my students take advantage of this in the summer months and as they will attest the benefits are endless. So, if you’re in Arizona it’s a no brainer and if you’re out of State please call and I’ll be happy to make sure you know all your options so you go to wherever is best for you or we can schedule me training you close to where you live.

If you’d like to experience free flight SOLO (not an instructional tandem flight) and know first hand what it’s like to run off a mountain or be towed aloft and release to fly then this introductory course is meant just for you. We have quite a bit of work to do and this course cost can be applied to your DWPG Beginners Fledgling USHPA P1 & 2 Course. Course length pilot dependent but I’ve had students flying solo after a solid half day ground school and kiting. This could be achieved towing or mountain launch. All equipment for this course is provided by Desert Wind PG.

Introductory FLY SOLO student Course

$800

In order to minimise risk effectively enough in paragliding it’s absolutley crucual that you learn a certain mindset and specific techniques right from the very get go. The importance of understanding the fundamentals correctly in an aviation based sport cannot be stressed enough. We will spend an appropriate amount of time on PRE-FLIGHT and Pre-flight mindset training that ALL DWPG students are thankful for at first but even more so after they get out of the nest and see what’s going on out there on their own. You will cultivated a process that engrains the most crucial aspects of understanding how to relate your skill level to the weather and flying site each and every time you fly. What’s really great is that if you are proactive and doing your homework we can get you there much faster than most think is possible. There is a lot to talk about here and that’s why the introduction meeting is crucial. What’s towing? Will I become proficient in towing and foot launching? How many tows are included?

Most my students receive their Surface Tow Pilot Rating (ST) and become proficient Launch Directors and Surface Tow Pilots as well as skilled Foot Launch pilots. They do this because we spend hours ground handling (kiting) the wing in parks all over getting them to master the feel of the canopy/glider in zero, light and strong winds sometimes with a substantial gust differential.

You will know detailed weather forecasting knowledge using the sites and apps we use. You will also have the knowledge to assess risk and relate it to your skill level for every site and weather conditions wherever in the world you choose to go..

If you only wish to complete the foot launch course this is not a problem and you are then only charged for the hours of instruction for the foot launching course.

There have been some rare cases where people have an outside unforeseen life change or move out of State and I work very hard to find a qualified instructor where they are going to discount them for what they learned with me and I will always prorate anywhere needed and have references for this.

Instruction cost is based on gear purchase through Desert Wind Paragliding. If you already purchased equipment and don’t have a recent qualified inspection report we will just have to do a full proper inspection which includes porosity, line strength break test, line trim check and trim if needed.

Desert Wind Fledgling Course & USHPA P1 & 2

$1500- 2,400 - $3,200 - Learning curve - canopy time/skydive/pilots/base

The course cost is dependent on hours to complete. This is due to the fact that everyone is different. We keep a running logbook and EVERY student sees exactly where they are in the costs as they go. This way you are NEVER charged for hours you didn’t train.

Mountain foot launch only to Surface tow included

Hourly based so you only pay for hours you train.

Foot launching and Surface Tow Launching are seperate courses so you can do one or both and only pay for what you choose.

DESERT WIND INTERMEDIATE & USHPA P3 COURSE

$150-$500 for Desert Wind P1,2 pilots

$200-$800 for non Desert Wind P1,2 pilots

This course is for most all pilots that continue on and hone their skills to a higher level. Costs are minimal for Desert Wind Pilots due to the fact that we are training everytime we fly together and they are staying active advancing their skills in flying communities as well as on guided tours to ColOmbia, Hawaii, Mexico, Brazil and other locations as well as completing over the water manuevers sessions (SIV) clinics.

I get many P2 pilots that were trained in other locations that move here and would like to have me assess their skills and help them fine tune their P2 skills for AZ type flying as well as progress their skills to P3/their next level.

For non DWPG P2 pilots cost is dependent on skill level. Assessment is free. I’ll have you forecast a flying day, check out your flight deck, equipment and logbook/tracklogs and we will go fly so I can see where you’re at and where we want to focus. Pilots love this because then they pay a set amount and jump in and get included in any and all Desert Wind training sessions. No matter what your skill level, contact me and I’ll get you dialed in to the local community and help get you to your next level, having fun!

OUT OF STATE PILOTS GET OUTA THE SNOW AND COME TOW IN THE WARM AZ SUN ALL THE TIME WITH ME AND OUR AMAZING FLOCK.

We have the most comprehensive Surface Tow 1,2 Pilot Rating Course in the USA. ALL DWPG students walk away knowing what a proper tow atmosphere and operation should run like as well as how to be a Tow Launch Director AND a Surface Tow Pilot who has an intimate understanding of their responsibilities and skills to minimise risk and have a whole lot of fun. You’ll learn how to assess the tow winch along with other critical components of the operation that lead you to understanding how fun towing can be as well as how incredibly advantageous it is because of the amount of altitude we gain for each flight. Due to the altitude gain we can practice manuevers as well as track thermals and fly longer durations and distance. I prepare pilots to enter Tow Competitions and fly with my students in tow competitions in TX, FL as well as in the midwest during the Summer months.

Many pilots leave their snowsports in States across the Country to join my Tow groups to keep the dust off their wings in the Summer months and thermal fly, fly cross country (XC), boat around and or many bring their acrobatics set ups, get towed nice and high and crank some G’s and have some of that kind of fun.

NON DWPG P2 students that have not previously towed Surface Tow course and rating

$200-$600 skill level dependent

Foreign pilots with current ratings I can issue the equivalent rating.
